brief planning group

For this media project we are going to film a documentary on the BNP. We are going to try and include interviews with current members of the BNP so they can get there opinions across. We are also going to interview different members of the public to see what their view are on this political party, see whether they agree or disagree on these particular views. The reason for making this programme is the dramatic increase in the popularity of the party in the local area of Barnsley.
The Channel that is most suited for broadcasting Channel4 we discovered its suitablity by looking at the channels statement of promises online, the channel promises to show programmes which discuss current affairs it also promises to show thought provoking programmes as well as promoting individual film makers. A similair programme to ours which is currently being shown on this channel is ‘Dispatches’ which is a similair syle documentary which deals with political and current issues.
The broadcast time for this documentary would be an hour long slot on channel four at nine o’clock. This time is after watershed yet is not too late, most documentaries are shown around this time. However the other channel’s programming schedule would have to be checked as if there are two political documentaries on at the same time you are practically halfing your viewing figures.
We also felt that as this was a documentary about the BNP and politics that our target audience would be anyone really who was interested in politics but mostly directed at the people who are of legal age to vote as they may be interesting in the issues that are brought up in this documentary, so this is 18 plus there isnt really any limit to the age the target audience could possibly be.
